Abstract

In the context of Basics of English Linguistics modules at TU Dresden, the app introduced in this chapter represents an additional self-study component that complements the lecture, a textbook, an e-learning platform, and student-led tutorials designed for practice and application of knowledge acquired in the lecture. Students may use the app at any point after it is introduced and become autonomous agents in contributing to their learning success by doing so, which we perceive as a useful addition to the other more streamlined components of the introductory module. The design of the questions in the app and individual statistics that may be improved by giving more correct answers are gamification elements that may motivate students to engage with the challenging material presented in the lecture.
