Abstract
A 3 sigma deviation has been firmly established between the experimental and the Standard Model value of the muon magnetic moment The reliability of this deviation is emphasized. Potential contributions of very different types of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) are compared. Supersymmetry fits particularly well. Examples of the impact and the importance of (g-2)mu for understanding new physics in the LHC era are reviewed.
