Abstract
The use of battery-powered traction units in local rail passenger transport requires the construction of charging infrastructure. If for the charging infrastructure a frequency conversion is not required, the costs can be greatly reduced due to the simpler design. Charging at standstill with AC 15kV 50Hz has been realised and tested succesfully. The question arises as to whether this charging voltage is also suitable for charging while travelling in short overhead contact line sections.
