Abstract

As part of a successful completed research project of a hybrid glass parapet, a load-bearing silicone bonded joint between coated glass and high-pressure laminate as well as a modified pinewood were investigated. Overall, seven different adhesive with various chemical basis were chosen for the study. This paper presents the results of the experimental characterisation of the adhesives and subsequent the findings of the tensile test on initial strength and residual strength after artificial ageing. The evaluation of the results is carried out with the Guideline for European technical approval for structural sealant glazing systems. It is the standard for load-bearing sili-cone bonding in structural glass constructions between glass and anodised aluminium or stain-less steel. Therefore, the ETAG 002 has no validity for the descripted research subject, although it is used for the evaluation due to the important position in constructive glass construction. The positive results demonstrated once again that the scope of the guideline should be extended. At the end of the research project, an exhibition demonstrator for glasstec 2018 was implemented with the preferred adhesive. This shows the implementation of a load-bearing bonding join be-tween a coated glass and high-pressure laminate, as a part of a parapet sheltering against falling.
