Abstract
Textile reinforced concrete (TRC) and carbon reinforced concrete (CRC) or Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM) can be applied for the construction of new buildings as well as for the strengthening of existing reinforced concrete (RC) structures respectively. This paper introduces the flexural strengthening of existing RC structures with TRC considering new and modified carbon grids. In the past, several studies have already been carried out on flexural strengthening of RC structures with TRC. However, in the last few years, modified and improved carbon grids were developed and produced. Those grids show higher tensile strengths and a deviant bond behaviour compared to previous used textile grids. The improvement of the carbon grids influences the flexural behaviour of strengthened RC structures as well when compared to the results of flexural strengthenings with coated textile grids that were developed a few years ago. Large-scale tests will show the improved performance of carbon reinforced concrete with new carbon grids. Furthermore, different parameters of the flexural strengthening with carbon reinforced concrete will be shown. For example, the influence of different carbon grids on the load-carrying behaviour of the large-scale tests will be investigated. This paper proves the potential of carbon reinforced concrete with new carbon grids for the flexural strengthening with less strengthening thicknesses.
