Abstract

The main goal of the common research project “Influence of load-induced temperature in UHPC on fatigue behaviour of concrete” is to identify the mechanisms of heat-generation in concrete members due to cyclic loading and to evaluate its influence on the fatigue behaviour of concrete. The investigation focuses on the influences of frequency and load regime on the temperature development in concrete during the fatigue process. A systematic experimental study on the effect of the different parameters on the load-induced temperature fields and the degradation of the concrete material by fatigue loading will be carried out within this project. Hereby, concrete strength, grain size, specimen’s geometry and loading parameters will be varied. In this paper, the first experimental results of the study are presented. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the load-induced temperature fields have a non-negligible effect on the damage process and the fatigue strength of UHPC.
