Abstract

Parameterization of a linear cutting force model for fiber-reinforced plastics based on the measurement of average cutting forces. The machining of components made of fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) with machine tools is often uneconomical, because usually large movements and moderate accuracy and process forces are required. An approach to solve this issue is robot- based machining. For the design of a robotic processing system, a process force model is needed in order to realize a closed-loop stability analysis. A methodology for modeling the cutting forces and the determination of the required cutting force coefficients based on experimental studies are presented in this paper.
