Abstract

The Urnfield terracing of the southeast slope of the Milseburg could be traced at approx. 170 m in length due to the fractionation of phosphates and further extensive soil analysis. The Iron Age settlement occupied no more than 50 m of that slope and was limited by the exterior wall. The area in the east of it shows no traces of settling. The just moderately increased soil phosphate contents also do not imply intensive settling here, but rather agricultural land use. Beyond the terraced area the substrate and soil conditions change. Therefore, the phosphate contents in front of the area used in the Urnfield period are not interpretable in an archaeological context.
