Abstract
Biological systems demonstrate exceptional perception and decision-making abilities through sensor fusion, where inputs from multiple sensory modalities, such as olfactory and tactile senses, are integrated for enhanced functionality. Inspired by nature, the digitization of these sensory inputs offers transformative potential for various applications, including safety, healthcare, and robotics. As we enter the 6G era, characterized by unprecedented speed, latency, and connectivity, olfactory and tactile digitization emerges as a cornerstone for developing immersive technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality, the tactile internet, and remote diagnostics. This chapter explores the principles, mechanisms, and applications of digitized olfactory and tactile sensors, highlighting their integration and potential within 6G-enabled systems to achieve human-like sensory capabilities and revolutionize diverse industries.
