Abstract

The interaction between buoyancy and thermocapillary instability mechanisms in a two-layer system with an anomalous thermocapillary effect was investigated. Linear stability of the system was analyzed. The results revealed that the presence of an anomalous thermocapillary effect could be a property of various liquid-liquid systems. The anomalous thermocapillary effect can lead to a new kind of the oscillatory instability.
