Abstract
The Modular Multilevel Converter is an emerging and highly attractive multilevel converter topology for medium and high voltage applications. This paper describes a continuous model of a three phase Modular Multilevel Converter. The model is derived from a system of ordinary differential equations. It can be used for a model based converter and/or control design. A comparison of simulations and experimental results using a (4.16 kV, 1MVA) induction motor drive shows the high accuracy of the proposed model.
