Abstract

Charge-ordered states are observed among low-dimensional transition metal oxides as well as in organic conductors. The physical properties reveal far-reaching similarities that have not been explored so far. The low-energy electrodynamic properties exhibit information about the collective response and fluctuation effects that might be crucial for understanding the superconducting properties often found in systems close to charge order.
