Abstract

The increasing volume and complexity of medical data is a daily challenge for medical professionals. Providing digital access to patient information at the point of care could help ease their workload. However, in medical settings, conventional mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets often fall short in hygiene and data security. To overcome these limitations and provide medical staff with appropriate support in their work, we propose Context-Aware Information System for Medical Environments (CAIS.ME), which utilizes lightweight augmented reality smart glasses for information presentation. By leveraging context information, the system presents only relevant patient data, reducing the need for manual searches in electronic records. This paper outlines central concepts and the architecture of the proposed system, as well as its requirements and challenges. It also summarizes the research conducted to date in several key areas, including context recognition and reasoning, hands-free interactions, workflow customization, and support for diverse client hardware.
