Abstract
High-speed railways (HSR) are a safe, comfortable and fast mode of transportation. Bridges provide robust and stable supports when crossing certain obstacles like valleys, rivers, and existing highway/railway lines. The main focus of this contribution is to provide a review on the bridges structures in Germany on high-speed railway lines. A short historical review about the development of HSR bridges is introduced. The development of design guidelines and codes are elaborated. Then the HSR bridge structure types that have been constructed in Germany such as simply supported bridges, continuous bridges, arch bridges, (semi-)integral bridges, steel truss composite bridges, rigid bridges are discussed. Special construction methods are presented. Furthermore, this contribution provides an introduction of bridge structures in France, Italy and Spain. In the end, a short summery is concluded.
