Abstract
Using data from 312 individuals who participated in the Saxon Longitudinal Study between 1987 and 2017, the effects of (early) childhood trauma (abuse or neglect) over the life course were examined. The prevalence of early maltreatment in the sample was 35 percent (sexual abuse nine percent, physical abuse seven percent, physical neglect 25 percent). Overall, the data analysis showed that early traumatisation exerted an influence on various areas of life (anxiety, depressiveness, suicidality and alcohol consumption), although this influence could not be demonstrated in all survey waves of the Saxon Longitudinal Study.
