Abstract

Methodological test analyses are an obligatory element in the development of high-stakes tests. This paper discusses the importance of item analysis as part of the quality criteria procedure in the exam creation and revision process for the German language examination for university entrance (DSH). Item analysis with the parameters item difficulty and discrimination is carried out using an example of reading comprehension for the receptive skills sections of the exam. The revision process is described in detail using three sample items and the added value of item analysis in quality management is emphasised. Finally, the possibilities of item analysis and its current significance in the DSH context are discussed.
