Abstract

Metal aerogels (MAs) are a burgeoning area in porous materials which appeared ~10 years ago, showcasing enormous potential in (electro)catalysis, plasmonics, and biology. The last decade witnessed both the impressive progress and big challenges in this field, necessitating joint efforts from interdisciplinary scientists to unlock the full potential of these emerging materials. This Review focuses on symmetrically summarizing synthesis methodologies and comprehensively overviewing potential application values of MAs, presenting critical challenges, and highlighting future directions and opportunities in this young field.
