Abstract
In a school area, a playground for the children will be constructed. This school area is situated in the near of a heavily trafficked road. In addition numerous groups of students from various schools generate noise. One of the aims of this study was determination of the acoustically optimal location of the new playground. For the arrangement of the playground, the auditory perception of the educators and playing children should be taken into account. Therefore sound recordings were conducted during different daytimes. These recordings were analyzed according to their signal and psychoacoustical properties. Furthermore the listening experiments were conducted using these recordings. Various road traffic noises and the noise of children screaming and playing were presented to the listening test participants. They were asked to evaluate the annoyance of the presented noises. This study presents the psychoacoustical criteria which are important for the establishment a playground and compare the annoyance of various noise sources.
