Abstract
The paper deals with the active control of a dynamical system using information about its disturbance gained at a certain time in advance. The method is applied to a limited-bandwidth quarter-car system. The optimal preview control law is considered regarding the preview control gain matrix. It can be shown that, as a part of the optimal control strategy, the preview controller 'concentrates' on what it can do best depending on the specific properties of the system. Particularly, it reflects that 'slower' eigenmodes need to be excited earlier than 'faster' ones. General relationships between preview time, actuator bandwidth and the arising optimal control law are exposed.
