Abstract

WTA Code of Practice 8–14 deals with joist ends in historic ceiling structures. The draft published this year has undergone some changes compared to the first edition, not least as a result of several research projects. This article provides an introduction to the content, presents the changes to the previous version and the most important practical requirements. Although the essential statements have been retained, some statements have been made more precise and explanations have been given more space in order to prevent misunderstandings. Some requirements for the planning and execution of construction measures are now formulated more clearly and sharply, as more knowledge and experience is now available. Furthermore, a new chapter on changes of use and impact has been included, a topic that was not covered in detail in the first edition in 2014. Some topics, such as the influence of masonry anchors or the inclusion of a new section on hydrophobization, were discussed controversially during the elaboration.
