Organisation profile

The Institute for the History of Medicine represents the interdisciplinary field of history, theory, ethics of medicine in teaching and conducts research on historical and ethical aspects of medicine and health care.

We research historical and ethical aspects of medicine and dentistry in the 19th and 20th centuries. In doing so, we also examine the many interactions between medicine, society, and politics. One of our research goals is to explain the historical genesis of modern medicine and, in addition, to analyze fundamental ethical questions.
