Description

The efficiency of shunting operations in flat yards is a critical component of industrial railways and freight transportation networks.
In this study, we outline our progress in modeling this problem using a linear approach. We introduce a multi-stage heuristic as an alternative approach.
By iteratively exploring and exploiting the graph-represented solution space, the heuristic improves the shunting sequences.
Empirical results show that increasing time budget leads to greater convergence of the objective value, which enhances robustness and reliability over time.
