Abstract
Patients undergoing thoracic surgery are still at high risk of developing postoperative pulmonary complications. Furthermore, the phenomenon of minor surgery under major anaesthesia is common, with the risk of airway injury, impaired cardiac performance and postoperative nausea and vomiting. Awake surgery with the use of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) combined with loco-regional anaesthesia can offer a promising alternative.
