Abstract
This chapter highlights the transformative potential of 6G technology as a cornerstone of the next digital revolution. It emphasizes the need for a new communication paradigm that integrates human-centric communication, ultra-low latency, and adaptive intelligence, moving beyond the limitations of existing networks such as 5G. 6G promises to redefine human interaction, economic systems, and societal structures, driving growth across sectors such as Industry 4.0, healthcare, and education. It aims to improve human-machine collaboration and create personalized services while promoting digital inclusion and economic empowerment to bridge the digital divide. This chapter also addresses the strategic imperatives of 6G development, advocating for technological sovereignty and global standardization in an era of geopolitical competition. We explore the key drivers of the 6G-life initiative, including interdisciplinary research and public-private partnerships. Additionally, we analyze the technical and societal challenges of 6G, highlighting the importance of sustainability, security, and ethical considerations in its deployment. Central to the discussion is the 6G-life Research Hub, which fosters collaboration and innovation to shape the future digital society.
