The European Biogas Landscape: One of the most comprehensive studies on the biogas sector

Publikation: Beitrag zu KonferenzenPosterBeigetragen

Abstract

In order to initially obtain a comprehensive overview of the biogas landscape in Europe, a large number of biogas plants are being investigated with regard to their technical, chemical and microbial profile. This objective is based on intensive preparatory work that has already been done by many other researchers within the framework of numerous projects. (Kirkegaard et al. 2017) For this purpose, samples were taken from biogas plants in Germany, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. Subsequently, chemical analyses were carried out and the natural microbial communities were characterized by the project partner DARWIN in Valencia. Based on this, new synthetic microbial communities are being generated and investigated. Furthermore, strategies are being developed to specifically manipulate the microbiome (bioaugmentation) in order to make the process more robust, faster, more productive and more standardized. Due to the manifold scope of the project, this report is limited to the chemical and technical evaluation of the samples from the biogas plants.
