Abstract
The application in the automotive industry of lightweight construction solutions suitable for series production is an essential prerequisite for achieving the ambitious goals of reducing vehicle weight. Thermoplastic fiber composites in combination with metallic structures make it possible to produce highly stressable structural components by the novel 3D hybrid technology in short process times, these components being in no way inferior to those produced by established metallic production processes. However, high-volume manufacturing with a reproducible component quality requires process chains with a high degree of automation as well as quality-assurance monitoring of the individual process steps.
