Abstract
In this work both, beams made of Strain Hardening Cementitous Composites and steel reinforced concrete (RC) were tested to determine their resistance against impact. In drop weight tests SHCC panels exhibit a higher resistance and lower damage compared to the used RC beams. SHCC specimens of cross section 40x40 mm² showed a higher specific impact resistance compared to specimens with cross section of 100x100 mm². The length and span of samples was increased at the same range as the cross section dimensions. This effect can be explained by more dominant wall effects with regard to the fibre orientation in smaller specimens. The energy absorption of SHCC samples with cross section 40 x 40 mm² becomes lower as higher the drop height (related to impact energy) was. For samples with cross section of 100x100 mm² an inverse relation was observed. For these effects up to now no explanation is available.
