Abstract
Mineral impregnated carbon fibres (MCF) constitute an innovative type of reinforcement for construction of material-minimized structures. The cured mineral-impregnated carbon fibres exhibit a significantly better bond to the concrete matrix than comparable polymer impregnated textiles. As a results, a significantly higher crack density and a more uniform crack distribution can be observed for the new composites when subject to uniaxial tensile loading. The article at hand presents the integration of fresh and cured mineral impregnated fibres in a specific extrusion process designed for very stiff concrete mixtures. Some details are provided on the impregnation process of the carbon rovings with a mineral suspension too. Furthermore, an outlook offers a vision of material-minimized structures made of extruded and subsequently freely shaped MCF reinforced concrete.
