Abstract

Conventional construction of concrete shells involves a costly and time-consuming erection of formwork. This can be avoided by assembling such structures from prefabricated modules. This article presents a new automated technology for the production of such modules which combines 3D printing technology using specially designed Strain-Hardening Cement-based Composite (SHCC) and newly developed technology of textile mesh production by robotic freeform laying of carbon yarns. This publication describes briefly all these production steps, presents approaches to the design of shell structures from planar modules and the joints between the modules, and demonstrates a module fabricated using the proposed technology.
