Abstract

5G targets the ubiquitous control and steering of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and cyber-physical systems. There are different new concepts that are needed in order to satisfy the requirements of the 5G use cases. In order to satisfy the strong requirements of the 5G use cases, it will be mandatory to have a holistic approach for the quality of service (QoS). Softwarization tools are useful to perform network slicing, which is QoS for the fixed network. To facilitate research activities and demonstrate proof of concepts towards 5G, building testbeds is one of the fundamental steps. The wireless access area consists of four test beds, namely, LTE, software-define radio (SDR), IoT, and multihop, multipath, and multicast (3M). By making use of the software-defined networking (SDN) application programmer interfaces (APIs), the network operators can manage a proper service function chaining (SFC). The fusion of SDN/NFV is a game changer as telecommunication operators are regaining lost ground.
