Abstract
While neoliberalisation has long drawn scholarly attention, there have been few attempts to quantify the course of restructuring under neoliberal urbanisation. This paper aims to describe and quantify the restructuring process in India for the period 1991–2011. Theoretically embedded in the notion of “creative destruction”, the paper adopts a multi-method approach to better discern the interjurisdictional differences of the restructuring process. This research contributes to the urban debate by statistically measuring and distinguishing restructuring process between urban and rural areas using creative destruction moments as well as by underscoring the need for an integrated analysis of rural and urban areas for addressing spatial disparities.
