Abstract
The discovery that electrons in Tl2Ru2O7 lose their three-dimensional nature at low temperatures and arrange in chains, has attracted research into transition metal oxides. Below the critical temperatures, the critical resistivity of the compound suddenly increases by two orders of magnitude. At low temperatures, the molecular orbitals in the compound order in such a way that they direct electrons exclusively along zigzag chains. When electrons in a solid are traveling around and hopping from atom and atom, from orbital to orbital, the spatial orientation of the orbital will determine the priority of the hopping direction for the traveling electrons. This explains the transition from a metal to an insulator, the subtle lattice deformation, and the one dimensional magnetism.
