Abstract

A new material in the construction sector, the textile concrete is being used successfully despite numerous questions. A number of examples specifically in the bridge construction industry show that this high performance composite material has excellent characteristics. The first ever bridge to use this material was built in 2005 for the State Horticultural Show. A second bridge was built in Kempten to complement the lightweight construction over the Döllnitz stream. It was designed for use by cyclists and pedestrians but can also be used by a snow-clearing vehicle. Currently, it is the world's longest concrete bridge built using textile reinforcement materials.
