Abstract

In the last two centuries textile reinforced concrete (TRC) was developed as a new high-performance material for many different areas of application. In the past the research projects mainly concentrated on the load bearing capacity under tensile stresses, further first design models for basic load cases were established. But to explain the complete behavior of TRC structures the behavior of TRC under compression is also of interest. TRC shows a characteristic behavior under compression, which is different to the known behavior of steel reinforced or plain concrete. The main reason for these differences is the disability of the fabrics to carry any load perpendicular to their longitudinal direction. Therefore the investigation of TRC under uniaxial compression is of great importance. First ideas and experimental results were presented by the authors in a previous publication. This article will present further research on TRC under compression, especially the influence of varies textiles on the load bearing capacity. The variation of the mesh size, the yarn diameter or the alignment of the textile layers are of great concern. These experimental investigations should lead to a better understanding of the behaviour of TRC under compression.
