Abstract

The demand for the recovery of carbon fiber from end-of-life components or carbon fiber waste is increasing in tandem with the growing use of carbon in numerous sectors, including the automotive and aerospace industries. While the use of recycled carbon fibres is hardly possible in industries such as
aviation or automobile, the building industry can be a large field of application since recycled carbon fibres can be used as non-metallic reinforcement of concrete structures. This article presents preliminary investigations of reinforcement made from recycled carbon fibers (rCF). To obtain initial information on the properties of the carbon fibers, tests were carried out to determine their tensile strength by investigating rebars made from rCF. However, a significant discrepancy was observed in the tensile strength of the rebars when compared to the semi-finished products made from new carbon fibers.
