Abstract
The workshop Synergies in Service Information Management, held as part of the NFDI4Earth Plenary, brought together stakeholders from NFDI4Earth, NFDI4Biodiversity, Base4NFDI, and institutional service providers to explore synergies and opportunities for collaborations in service information management. Although the workshop did not aim to provide in-depth disciplinary feedback or technical implementation details, it served as an important starting point for cross-consortia and cross-domain exchange. Participants discussed common challenges and approaches related to service metadata, onboarding processes, service classification, and user-centred design from the user and provider perspective.
Building on existing work, such as metadata schema mapping across consortia, the discussions focused on identifying shared requirements, gaps, and opportunities for collaboration rather than revisiting established technical solutions. A key outcome was the broad consensus on the need for a trustworthy, user-driven, and interoperable service ecosystem based on the principles of transparency, usability, and visibility.
This report summarizes the workshop's objectives, structure and key findings, and outlines next steps towards advancing a federated, FAIR, and researcher-centred NFDI service ecosystem.
