Abstract

As a result of changes in use of existing buildings or changes of standards towards higher live loads, many older constructions no longer meet computationally all required proofs, for example that for the shear load capacity. One opportunity to increase the shear resistance is the strengthening with textile or carbon reinforced concrete (TRC resp. CRC). In this case, fine-grained concrete and textile grids as reinforcement are applied subsequently to strengthen the shear load capacity. In the planned thesis, finite element (FE) investigations of structural members strengthened with TRC to increase the shear resistance will be a main part. Large-scale tests already executed in the past serve as basis for the simulations and for planned own experiments on large-scale beams for shear strengthening with CRC. With those studies, known design models will be checked and adapted or extended finally. In this paper, previous large scale tests were simulated with one FE program and these numerical results were used for the future tests.
