Abstract

Tissue engineering aims to develop innovative scaffolds for the regeneration of tissues. This strategy enables hard tissues to heal themselves by the introduction of scaffolds to regenerate “neo-native” functional tissues. The development of innovative bone scaffolds can make it possible to fabricate suitable constructs to not only regenerate the bone but also to deliver therapeutic molecules locally to the site of action. It is anticipated that with the progress in the field of biomaterials science, this class of porous biomaterials plays critical roles in hard tissue engineering, specially the regeneration of bone tissues.
