Abstract
The increasing demand for energy necessitates the implementation of large-scale and stationary energy storage systems that are cost effective, safe, and sustainable. In this issue of Joule, Chen and co-workers report a halogen-mediated non-aqueous electrolyte, which enables the long-term reversible manganese (Mn) plating/stripping.1 This development creates new possibilities for the advancement of high-performance Mn metal batteries utilizing affordable and abundant resources.
