Abstract
Education regarding the relationship between man and environment in Germany is carried out by numerous institutions and environmental educators. At the same time, the development of digital learning is leading to ever new opportunities to obtain information online in addition to traditional teaching and learning opportunities. Today, mobile internet use has become part of everyday life, especially among younger people. This provides the possibility to raise awareness of environmentally relevant topics with a focus on the landscape at an early age by offering didactically high-quality digital services. This article therefore addresses the question of how issues related to the relationship between man and environment at a landscape-scale can be taught to a younger audience in a modern manner. A research team from the IÖR decided on the storytelling approach. Web-based storytelling combines the narrative format of a story with various modern media elements. If stories are told authentically, the reader also identifies emotionally with the protagonists, thus anchoring the message of the story more firmly in the memory. At the same time, animated content and an interactive learning environment can explain complex facts comprehensibly. Based on an illustrative story, the article shows how the online-based storytelling approach can be used to convey environmental topics and which technical implementation options are available.
