Abstract

An approach to increase the effective number of metamaterial layers, including a metal mirror, for effective use in the optical devices, was investigated. Metamaterials show adaptable permitivity, permeability and the refractive index that can be used in optics. Plasmon hybridization was conducted of metamaterials for determining the three dimensional properties that can be used for the development of optical devices. Metamaterials were fabricated using standard electron beam lithography and thermal evaporation of the constitutive materials followed by a lift-off procedure. Numerical simulations were also performed using Finite Integration Time Domain algorithm for verifying accurate approach, which can be used for fabrication. Reflectance spectra of the materials were measured with a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. Results show that the coupling of thin basic metamaterial slabs help to increase layers.
