This chapter reviews the current metabolic and molecular imaging tools used in ageing and dementia, their utility, promise and potential difficulties in bringing them into common practice. It covers basic techniques and their practical applications, including guidelines and recent studies on sensitivity, specificity and optimal uses. The techniques covered are SPECT (image acquisition, memory impairment), PET (image acquisition) and its derivatives.
