Abstract

In this contribution, the results of a series of large scale fatigue tests are described. A unique way of testing is used. Imbalance motors apply a controllable, sinusoidal force close to the first natural frequency of the specimen. Due to the dynamic effect high fatigue loads are evoked. This testing method allows higher loading frequencies and larger load cycle numbers compared to common hydraulic actuators while causing moderate energy and maintenance costs. The experimental results are compared to numerical calculations. The numerical model is capable of simulating the strain development as well as degradation processes of concrete. The results show good agreements between experiment and numerical calculation. A similar strain development can be observed in both results as well as a degradation of the elastic modulus. As a consequence of this stress redistributions occur which are quantified in the numerical model.
