Multidimensional Perovskite Solar Cells: What's Next after 3D/2D?

Abstract
Integrating 2D with 3D perovskites is widespread in the perovskite solar cell community. There are different strategies to create 2D/3D interfaces, and they have in common an increase in device performance and stability due to defect passivation at the grain boundaries and the formation of a protective capping layer. However, there is a growing concern about the stability of the 2D/3D interface, particularly regarding the dynamic nature of this interface, which can lead to phase conversion and/or degradation of the 2D phase. Given the challenges associated with 2D/3D interfaces, realizing other low-dimensional systems, such as 1D/3D and 0D/3D, has attracted the research community's attention. Although still in the early stages of development, these new strategies seem promising as they can passivate trap states and increase the stability of the 3D phase while providing a more structurally stable interface. This perspective delves into the interface of 1D and 0D perovskites with 3D, highlighting their opportunities and challenges.
