Abstract

The goal of our current research is to develop a parametrized script that, as an output, proposes an adaptive spatial structural system that reacts to different requirements and constraints of existing buildings for vertical redensification. By using a fully parametrized planning approach, the additional loads are transferred to clearly defined support points along the perimeter of the structure without adding loads to the existing building. The approach makes use of wall and plate elements, in massive construction or in panel construction.

In this paper, we present two methods for the distribution of wall elements in a spatial structure. These are presented and then evaluated based on structural criteria. By activating the internal structure in order to span to the predefined support points, no additional loads are added to the existing building. The spatial structure, apart from efficiently transferring the loads, allow a great variety in architectural layouts.
