Abstract

Textile-reinforced concrete is being increasingly used in the construction sector in Canada due to its excellent characteristics. Textile-reinforcement material is corrosion-resistant and requires a thin concrete covering, making it suitable for processing into building components with thin walls. The textile-reinforced bridge in Kempten is made from W-shaped segments comprising textile-reinforced concrete, which have been designed to form the load-bearing construction using tendons. The entire lightweight construction can be loaded onto a lorry for transport to the site where it is to be erected. The main component of the bridge is a 30-mm-thick shell made from textile-reinforced concrete, which serves as the supporting structure, the walking surface, and the 1.2-m-high handrail.
