Abstract

Tonsillopharyngitis (synonym: tonsillitis) is a frequent disease in children and can be caused by viral or bacterial pathogens. The return of a child after recovery to a community facility represents a special challenge as close contacts facilitate the spread of infections. In addition to the clinical criteria the medical decision also has social aspects, such as the risk of transfer of pathogens to the other children and personnel in the community facility, the entitlement of the child to care in the community facility and the interests of the parents that must be considered. Nevertheless, the restoration of the health of the child is primarily decisive. This article discusses the consequences of the clinical and microbiological diagnostics in the practice as well as their repercussions on the treatment of children with tonsillopharyngitis. In particular, the revised recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute and the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) for the readmission to community facilities are dealt with.
