Cardboard forming is a key technology for the production of sustainable packagings made from completely recyclable and biodegradable fibrous materials. Regarding its technological principles, the production of such cups made from cardboard is well understood. However, due to heavily fluctuating material characteristics of cardboard, today’s available production equipment does not meet the requirements for commercial mass production. Modularization of production lines, technology control loops within each production module, and linking those modules to a cyberphysical production system will address those challenges.
