Abstract

The common methods to simulate acoustic components in a larger frequency band have significant restrictions. This leads to a limited applicabillity, especially for low frequency applications and acoustic microsystems. In this paper new approximation functions to describe the acoustic impedances of acoustic canal components with a circular or slit-shaped cross section as well as slot-shaped and spherical volume components are presented. They are gained by decomposing elaborate physical based analytical descriptions into dissipative and energy storing terms, normalizing them and approximating their frequency responses. The gained expressions allow for a graphical interpretation with circuit elements as equivalent circuits without loosing to much accuracy or having practical validity restrictions. The new approximation formulae are also presented in a form, where the relevant properties of air are expressed by their dependence on pressure and temperature within a specified range. The aim of the presented work is to provide more feasible and accurate means for the simulation of acoustic components using networks. Thereby the existing shortcomings should be overcome. This is a contribution to the further developement of acoustic systems aswell as the realization of autocorrecting systems and compensation mechanisms.
