Abstract

This article presents the expansion of the ArcGIS toolbox ZonalMetrics (Adamczyk & Tiede 2017) by four new tools. The new tools calculate landscape metrics, with the help of which conclusions can be drawn about the fragmentation, habitat connectivity and urban sprawl of a landscape. These include the effective mesh size (meff) according to Jaeger (2000) and Moser et al. (2007), the Connectivity Index (CBIIND2_impr) according to Deslauriers et al. (2018), the proximity index (PXfg) according to Gustafson & Parker (1992) (modified) as well as urban sprawl metrics according to Jaeger & Schwick (2014). Since the tools were developed in the Python programming language, every user can view the source code. The toolbox has been adapted for ArcGIS Pro for future security. The input data can be in shape format or as a geodatabase. The metrics can be calculated for a large number of spatial units at the same time. Analyses for large areas with a large number of statistical units (e. g. administrative units) can be carried out efficiently in this way to examine current issues of landscape ecology and environmental monitoring.
